From the tranquility of Lake Juliette to the family fun of Lake Jackson, Georgia Power’s central lakes are great for a getaway.

Lake Jackson

Lake Jackson features a beach area for swimming, picnic areas, a lake fishing pier and a tailrace fishing pier. Handicapped-accessible boat ramps are available, as are reservable picnic pavilions.

Lake Juliette

Lake Juliette offers a day-use area for boat launching, picnicking and swimming, as well as full-service and primitive campgrounds. Picnic pavilions are also available to be reserved. Handicapped-accessible boat launching ramps are also available. Boats with engines greater than 25 horsepower are prohibited on Lake Juliette. Please note, Dames Ferry campground is now managed by Georgia State Parks.

Boating

Retreat to the peace and tranquility of Lake Juliette. 

Dames Ferry day-use area is nestled against the 3,600-acre Lake Juliette (Rum Creek). A two-lane boat ramp provides easy access for boaters to launch their boats into the lake. Restrooms and picnic tables are available. The day-use park is open year round. Bring the family or spend time with friends. Swim in the lake or visit one of the many shops and restaurants in the area.

Hunting

Seasonal duck hunting is permitted at Lake Juliette. You may contact the Georgia Department of Natural Resources online or call 1-800-366-2661 for the latest information on hunting seasons and regulations, or to obtain a hunting license.

Whistle Stop Café

Visit the site where the Oscar-nominated movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was filmed. Stop by for lunch and try the fried green tomatoes. Whistle Stop Café is located in Juliette, GA., about four miles away from Dames Ferry.

Ocmulgee National Monument

Located in Macon, GA, Ocmulgee National Monument features Native American mounds - remains of an ancient civilization who first came here during the last Ice Age. The mounds preserve traces of over 10 millennia of Southeastern Native American culture. They were built more than 1,000 years ago and include a Great Temple on the site.

Jarrell Plantation Historic Site

Located in Juliette, GA, this historic cotton plantation was built in 1847. It is one of the best-preserved examples of a middle class Southern plantation. It was owned by a single family — the Jarrells — for more than 140 years. The plantation survived General Sherman’s “March to the Sea” in 1864. On July 4, come out for the Ol' Time Independence Day celebration. 

 

In the fall, you can visit for old-fashioned Syrup Makin’ Day. During the Christmas holiday, you can warm up by the fireplace for music and stories and enjoy homemade spiced cider cooked on a wood-burning stove and served with old-style cookies. For information, call 478-986-5172; open Thursday-Saturday only. Facilities also include a museum, plantation buildings, gift shop, picnic area and bus parking.

Dauset Trails Nature Center

Located in Jackson, GA, Dauset Trails Nature Center features hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, a one-of-a-kind animal nature trail and other types of outdoor recreation. Learn more about early farm life through close and intimate contact with Georgia’s preserved flora and fauna. Fishing

Visitors to Lake Juliette and Lake Jackson have a passion for fishing, and with the variety of fish on offer, it’s little wonder why.

If you plan to fish while visiting, you will need to obtain a fishing license or permit from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Licenses can be purchased locally at sporting goods stores, convenience stores and marinas, or by visiting the Department of Natural Resources website.
