Fishing

Midway between Atlanta and Augusta, you'll find some of the state's best fishing.

Fishing is popular at Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair, as they're home to some of the state’s best fishing for bass, bluegill and catfish. If you plan to fish while visiting, you will need to obtain a fishing license or permit from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Licenses can be purchased locally at sporting goods stores, convenience stores and marinas, or by visiting the Department of Natural Resources website.

Take a look at our fishing guide below to find out some of the common species found in the east Georgia lakes, and view an attractor guide for Lake Sinclair.

Local Points of Interest

Rock Eagle Effigy Mound

Less than 30 minutes from Lake Oconee, is the prehistoric Rock Eagle Effigy Mound. The famous mound is located near Eatonton, GA. The mound is in the shape of a gigantic bird and thought to be about 2,000 years old.

Tower at Rock Eagle

Visitors of the Rock Eagle Effigy Mound can climb the tower for a great view of the mound. The tower was built in the 1930s. The stairs may be strenuous for some visitors, so there is a paved walkway around the mound with interpretive panels explaining the significance of the site.
