Investing in Georgia's Energy Future

2022 Rate Request

Filed June 24, 2022, the rate case is subject to approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission.

The request will enable us to continue making critical investments in strengthening and further securing the electric grid, transforming our power generation to include cleaner and more economical energy resources and continue improving the customer experience. A decision is expected in December. If approved, the proposed rates would take effect beginning January 1, 2023.

2022 Integrated Resource Plan

Approved July 21, 2022, the IRP delivers a comprehensive strategy to both transform Georgia's energy sources and help to ensure that the state's network of transmission lines and grid infrastructure continues to deliver energy to Georgians – both today and in the future.


Transitioning from coal generation

The Georgia PSC has approved the retirement and decertification of all Georgia Power-controlled coal units by 2028, with the exception of Plant Bowen. In consideration of the reliability needs of customers in North Georgia, the Georgia PSC indicated it plans to reevaluate potential retirement of Plant Bowen Units 1 & 2 as part of the 2025 IRP.

Transforming the fleet and grid

We received approval for our comprehensive strategy to help ensure that the state's network of transmission lines and grid infrastructure continues to deliver reliable energy to Georgians – both today and in the future.

Delivering diverse, flexible customer programs

As part of the 2022 IRP, we have received approval to continue to provide innovative customer programs to promote reliability and resiliency, such as the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) customer program.
